Thank you so much for the outpouring of generosity from all of you who have donated so far in the Momenta Quartet's year-end fundraising campaign. We really appreciate your support as we look forward to an exciting season ahead (and navigate our current financial challenges.)

Meanwhile, Alex has some thoughts to share with you about his recent Momenta Festival program last October and the plans he is cooking up for next season. Alex writes:

​Thank you for helping us to celebrate Charles Ives this year! We are still recovering from his two string quartets, several other pieces for strings, and Piano Trio, appearing alongside the usual eclectic pieces that make up a Momenta Festival. If you made it to the second evening at Broadway Presbyterian Church, I hope you enjoyed the theatrics that we added to the already theatrical Second String Quartet. And speaking of the church: in our third year partnering with Music For Food, we raised over $850 for Broadway Community, helping it to continue its mission of setting both a metaphorical and literal table for those in need.

Something that I love about Momenta Festival is that it is not only about Momenta, but our talented friends as well. I had a blast digging into Ives’s Piano Trio with Michael and Nana, and with your help, I’d like to do the same for Ravel in 2025! His Piano Trio is another “bucket list” piece for me, and Nana and Michael are both ready to join me on this epic work. I still need to uncover the rest of the program--these things are never completely set until the program is set in toner on paper--but at least you have this centerpiece to look forward to. Don’t be surprised if I come up with a Ravel-Carrillo pairing; we will celebrate the 150th birthdays of both composers in 2025. I write these words as I relax after a recording session of Carrillo’s Eighth Quartet, which you heard on my “Found” program.

Despite the financial hiccups caused by bumbling bureaucrats, we are determined to keep these ambitious programs free and open to all, and this will only be possible with your generosity. If you haven’t already, we hope you keep us in mind during your year-end giving plans!

In case any of you missed the news from last week - Momenta now has its own nonprofit status. We took over the nonprofit organization of violinist/composer Cornelius Dufallo, and the official name of the organization is C.B.D. Music, Inc dba Momenta Quartet. If you already donated to Momenta through our fiscal conduit, The Field - no worries - we are still a member through this transition and will receive your gifts.
