Concourse Counterpoint: A free concert series debuts in the Bronx

Concourse Counterpoint attracts new audiences!

The 2019-20 season marks the debut of Concourse Counterpoint, a new chamber music series presenting free concerts in the Bronx at the beautiful Andrew Freedman Home on Grand Concourse. Curated by Momenta Quartet’s own Stephanie Griffin, Concourse Counterpoint’s opening season features performances by Momenta as well as bassist Hilliard Greene and a multiple viola ensemble!

Stephanie writes:

“Many of you may know that I relocated to the Concourse neighborhood in the Bronx almost three years ago, after many years in Williamsburg and in the Upper West Side. I absolutely love it here, and I am super excited to be opening a new monthly musical salon series, Concourse Counterpoint, in the stunningly gorgeous mansion (and now progressive arts center) next door, the Andrew Freedman Home. (That’s where the peacock in John Gurrin’s photo above is heading….through that gate you see on the right hand side.) I am hosting the first three concerts of this series as my community service component for the BRIO award I recently won as a Bronx-based composer, through the Bronx Councils on the Arts.

“Concourse Counterpoint concerts will take place once a month, on Saturday afternoons at 1pm – and as part of my mission to share music with this wonderful neighborhood, admission is FREE. I chose this time to coincide with the last hour of ‘Caffeine on the Concourse,’ so you can all purchase coffee and pastries (if they last!) to enjoy during the concert. If anyone has any hesitation to come up here, it is only 2 stops away from Manhattan on the D or 4 trains – and there is plenty to do when you get up here! Leave some time to visit the Freedman Home’s art gallery and the Bronx Museum across the street. (Both are always free admission.) Also – there is spectacular Jamaican food on Walton Avenue, just south of 167th!

“Special thanks to the Andrew Freedman Home’s Deputy Director, Beth Venn, for making this new series a possibility!”
